A programme undertaken before surgery to strengthen muscles around a joint. When a joint has not been used for some time due to injury, surrounding muscles become weak. After surgery, it is imperative to get the area moving as soon as possible for an effective recovery. If you have gone through a pre-hab programme, it stands to reason that the stronger muscles will support the joint much better and recovery will be quicker and more effective.
Immediately after damage, we must mobilise a joint, form nerve pathways to reconnect it to the brain (proprioception) and strengthen. It is important to start as soon as possible after injury (or surgery) and constantly reassess and progress the programme to get back to full health. It’s hard work but imperative to successfully gaining the original mobility and strength. DON’T WAIT.
